About me

About me

Hi! I’m Julian, nice to see you here.

This is a space where I share my thoughts, ideas, and experiences on topics I’m passionate about. I’m a developer and a tinkerer. My day job is building in-house software at a company that makes prefab timber construction elements, so a lot of my time goes into automating the processes that turn those elements into buildings. I like that contrast more than I expected to, I love to connect those two worlds together.

At home in the Netherlands I have a wife and two kids, so most of the tinkering happens in the little time available there.

Mostly I’m just curious. I like to learn, and I really like to understand how things actually work. That itch is half the reason I write anything down at all.

I started this blog because I miss the old internet, the one where people had their own sites and wrote posts you could follow, before all of it turned into a race for likes and Klout. People wrote because they were genuinely interested in something. They shared a thought, or just wrote down what they were figuring out. No algorithm deciding who saw it.

So this is my own corner of that. I’m not writing for anyone in particular, and I’m not really on social media. If something here turns out to be useful or interesting to you, great. If not, that’s fine too.

As for what’s actually here: mostly whatever I’m into at the moment. Web development, the apps and design. I’m curious about 3d printers too, so a thought now and then about tech or just life stuff. Sometimes it’s something I learned the hard way, sometimes just an experiment I felt like writing up.

I write almost everything in Obsidian, my tool of choice. It’s really my second brain so I wanted my blog to live there too.

You can find me on GitHub, though there’s nothing public there yet. You can also subscribe via RSS, and an email address will probably show up here at some point.
